The Women’s Crew Team will spend Spring Break training in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We stay at Briarcliffe R.V. Park – storing our boats on their pool deck and using their dock to launch into the Intracoastal Waterway for practice. The friendly folks at Briarcliffe even treat us to delicious breakfasts – the team’s favorite dish is unanimously cheesy grits. Onota lake, where we row at home, is still frozen so we are looking forward to getting to practice twice every day and take the fitness that we’ve worked for this winter and turn it into speed on the water. We’ll be racing the University of North Carolina (men’s team) while we’re down there, and then stopping in Philadelphia on our way back to race St. Joseph’s University. When not on the water the team can generally be found playing pickup basketball (there’s a reason none of us play “ball” sports), having dessert bakeoffs, composing “crewcapella” songs, mini-golfing, swimming at the beach, or perusing the beachy shops at Barefoot Landing. Ask anyone on the team – we are counting down the days until we go to Myrtle Beach!
