mustaches, mustaches, NO - Women's Crew

I’m currently writing from the Cheston family’s dining room table where the 1V is diligently drinking tea and attempting to do homework. Thanks to Cheryl Cheston who is graciously letting us stay with her, and who even outfitted us in warm clothing for practice today (we weren’t prepared for morning snow flurries after the weather in South Carolina!) We practiced on the Schuylkill River today in preparation for our races tomorrow. We’ll be racing St. Joes and Marietta in the morning and then getting back on the water in the afternoon to race a quad of women who are Vesper elites. They train all year round for the national team in singles! We’re excited to go up against some fast rowers who we’ve never gotten to race before.

A few highlights from our last few days in Myrtle Beach:

– Dessert bakeoff! In which Liz’s raspberry peach tart won hands down over the lacluster contributions from the rest of the team.

– Skit Night – Briarcliffe residents opened the show with “Albert the Moose,” a skit orchestrated by Peter complete with fake blood, guns, and questionable Maine accents. My personal favorite part of the night was a singalong led by a Briarcliffe couple – You are my sunshine, Folsom Prison Blues, and I Love Old People. The women’s team skit was a clever adaptation to Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” Here’s a link to the original in case you haven’t seen it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0). Matt Crimp, correspondent for the men’s team gave us a poor review, so I thought I’d let you look at the lyrics and see for yourself. Particularly proud of the “rap” portion which Hayley, Liz, and Jane performed. The mustaches comment is a reference to the men’s team’s inexplicable desire to, as a group, grow mustaches during the trip. They come in a variety of shapes, thicknesses, degrees of creepiness, and levels of success but are ALL bad decisions.
